Welcome to Fresh Express Kitchen! My name is Sherry and I am a part-time blogger, photographer, ebook author, and full-time wife living in Texas. I am the founder, editor, and curator of freshexpresskitchen.com. After discovering I had food allergies and declining health I began the transition into a vegan, plant-based lifestyle in 2015 and have lost 20 pounds, gained more energy, and feel better than I have in years. It’s a creative avenue for sharing my passion for quick, easy, plant-based, whole food recipes, living a healthier lifestyle, and of course, food photography. Changing your diet can be a bit daunting, but after much research, we found the plant-based, whole foods diet plans promoted by well known Dr. John McDougal. It can be a challenge to come up with new eating habits and recipes but basically, a starch-based (vegan) diet is fairly simple! Instead of centering a meal around animal protein (or lettuce), the goal is to center the meal around a starchy vegetable like rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, and legumes. Then you can add other vegetable sides and even fruit desserts!

It is important, especially initially, to keep track of your nutrition. I would definitely encourage you to set up a free account with Crono Meter and track your daily intake for a little while to make sure you are getting what you need. I have found that plant-based supplements are most definitely necessary, especially B Vitamins. We have included preferred brands in our cheat sheet to help out.
